Before a decade, we were not able to know much about our website visitors like their locations, IPs, browsers, devices, traffic sources, and their behavior on the site and their journey on the website. We didn't have any familiarity with many analytics terms like number of visits, bounce rate, new visits, repeated visits, etc. Today we have plenty of options to track the user journey and other parameters to improve the overall site performance and conversion rate. There are commercial paid analytical tools available in the market like SEOmoz tools, which are capable to give us detailed reports regarding to our website and e-commerce stores. _ For webmasters and e-commerce web development companies who are unable to spend much or don’t want to invest in the analytic tools, Google analytics is the best option available for free. From Google’s side this is an open gift to the web community that in invaluable in many sense, for small businesses in particular. Thought it has paid version but hardly any small business need it. Most of the requirements of e-commerce web development are fulfilling by this free version so far. Despite a free version, Google is not ignoring it at all and constantly improving its features and capacities by updating it regularly. Recently Google has announced a new beta version that is call universal analytics with altogether new set of features and facilities for analytics savvy webmasters. At first glance, none can differentiate between old analytics and universal analytics but those who are spending lots of time on analytics can distinguish it decently. Session timeouts is new thing for an e-commerce web programmer as with this you can detect with universal analytics. A session will start when a visitor is entering on the website on any page and ends until it remains active or leaves the site. This way you can determine page/visit or conversion rate. If any visitor remains inactive for next 30 minutes the session will die automatically therefore, this parameter is call session timeouts. Here you can determine the session timeout time as you have full control over it. Here e-commerce developers can set minimum one minutes and maximum four hours for a session depending on the nature of your website and your businesses.
