When you download framework and you need to upload it on your testing server you should understand the file structure of the framework placed on the testing server. Generally you will find following files and folders on your testing server:
Cake: this folder is storing all the core functions and internals required for CakePHP website development and you need not to edit anything here.
Docs: This folder has very few files but it is important because it holds license information like COPYING.txt, a change log and some other important files. This folder has no part in running CakePHP application so you can remove that if you wish but keeping is good for a future need.
App: This is the main folder where your code for the application created for CakePHP website development will stay and that is holding your controllers, configuration, templates and other useful files. This folder is an active part of your PHP application running so closely examine it and learn its structure carefully.
In next part we will see something more about the understanding the file and folder structure as a beginner and some other aspects to getting started in CakePHP projects.
